CHC30308 Certificate III in Home and Community Care


Course Outline
The Certificate III in Home and Community Care is for people who want to work in the community sector caring for client/s in the home. Clients may include the elderly, individual with a disability or any member of the community who require support in their home.  Individuals develop the skills and knowledge to support the client to maintain the greatest level of independence through the provision of personal care and a range of home care services.

Course Structure
The Certificate III in Home and Community Care consists of 14 units of competency: 10 compulsory and 4 elective units.  Elective units should be chosen to reflect the work role and required duties.
 
The units cover topics such as:
  • Overview of the home and community care sector
  • Overview of aged care
  • Occupational health and safety
  • Documentation requirements in home and community care
  • Providing personal care
  • Caring for older people with dementia and/or disabilities
  • Working with culturally diverse clients and staff
  • Promoting client independence
  • Food safety procedures
  • First Aid


Course Delivery and Duration
The CHC30308 Certificate III in Home and Community Care is delivered as a classroom based course.    Those who are not currently working in the industry will be required to complete 120 hours of practical placement at Mercy Health’s aged care facilities (low care only). 

Classroom based delivery is structured over 1 evening per week for 10 months. The program may be completed sooner depending on experience and recognition assessment.


Assessments
Assessments for this qualification are undertaken progressively throughout the course duration.  The assessments enable the individual to demonstrate the application of the key knowledge and skills for the units of competency.

  • Written questions
  • Demonstration
  • Observation
  • Supervisor Testimonials
  • Case Scenarios


For individuals who have worked in the industry for some time and have the requisite skills and knowledge may apply for Recognition Assessment.


Career Pathways



Selection Criteria
Prospective participants:
 

  • should have a strong interest in caring for the elderly and the right professional attitude
  • must be able to work autonomously
  • must be physically capable of performing domestic duties and a range of manual handling tasks
  • may be required to complete a language, literacy and numeracy assessment.


A national police check is mandatory before undertaking practical work placement.

Course Fees
Traineeship
There are no course fees under the traineeship program for eligible candidates.


Partially funded courses
Tuition fee is $300 per person. 

Discounts are available for Concession Card holders.

To be eligible for a Government subsidised place, applicants must be:
1. An Australian citizen or holder of a permanent visa; or a holder of a Special Category Visa (sub-class 444); or East Timorese asylum seeker; or a holder of a Temporary Protection Visa; AND
2. Aged under 20 years of age on 1 January in the year of course commencement; OR
3. Aged 20 - 25 years or over on 1 January in the year the course commences, and you do not hold a prior qualification at the Certificate IV level or higher; OR
4. Aged 25 years or over on 1 January in the year of the course commences and you are a retrenched worker seeking a qualification higher than the highest qualification held.


Full fee paying
Course fee is $1990.00 per person (GST exempt).  A range of flexible payment options are available.
