Course Structure
The Certificate IV in Leisure and Health consists of 16 units of competency: 11 core units and 5 elective units. Elective units are chosen to reflect the work role and required duties.
The Core Units delivered are:

- CHCCS400A Work within a relevant legal and ethical framework
- CHCCS401B Facilitate responsible behaviour
- CHCICS405A Facilitate Groups for individual outcomes
- CHCORG405C Maintain an effective work environment
- CHCRH401B Work effectively in the leisure and health industry
- CHCRH402A Undertake leisure and health programming
- CHCRH404A Plan, implement and monitor leisure and health programs
- CHCRH405A Plan leisure and health programs for clients with complex needs
- CHCRH406A Apply knowledge of human behaviour in leisure activity programs
- CHCRH407A Apply Sociological concepts to leisure and health
The Elective Units delivered are:
- CHCOHS312A Follow safety procedures for direct care work
- HLTAP401B Confirm physical health status
- CHCGROUP403D Plan and conduct group activities
- CHCAC319A Provide support to people living with dementia
- CHCORG406A Supervise work
Course Delivery and Duration
The Certificate IV in Leisure and Health is delivered via distance and online, allowing students to study at their own pace. Dedicated trainer support and interactive forums, blogs and online chat maximises the learning experience and learning outcomes.
Students will also be supported by trainer visits to their workplace to assess workplace based skills. For those students who are not currently working, a placement of 190 hours will need to be completed. Students undertaking placement will also be supported by trainer visits. It is anticipated that the course will take 18 months to complete.
Assessments
Assessments for this qualification are undertaken progressively throughout the course duration. The assessments enable the individual to demonstrate the application of the key knowledge and skills for the units of competency.

- Case Scenarios
For individuals who have worked in the industry for some time and have the requisite skills and knowledge may apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), or Credit Transfer (CT).

Selection Criteria
Prospective participants:
- must have a strong interest and commitment to the supporting the health and well-being of the elderly
- must have the right professional attitude to support and lead others
- may be required to complete a language, literacy and numeracy assessment.
- must have access to a computer and the internet
- must have a current police clearance (within 6 months of date of commencement of course)
- must successfuly complete a pre-training review, including language, literacy and numeracy assessment
- must provide evidence of Australian Citizenship, or permanent residency
Employment Opportunities
Employment opportunities are excellent and participants that complete the qualification may be eligible for job roles such as Diversional Therapist, Diversional Therapist Assistant, Community Leisure Officer, Recreation Activities Officer, and Activities Officer.

Course fee is $2,190 per person (GST exempt).
Deposit of $400 is payable to secure the enrolment ($150 is non refundable).
